Yoga No Hakobune is located in Vale de Moses, designed as a space for yoga practice surrounded by nature. The inspiration comes from the Japanese word "Hakobune," which means Noah's Ark. The structure appears to float above the forest floor, creating an experience of peace while also connecting users to the natural setting. This design aims to create a retreat that offers solitude and engagement with the outdoors at the same time.

Design Concept

The design emphasizes an elevated structure that minimizes its impact on the environment. This floating box creates a visual connection with the landscape and offers uninterrupted views. The idea is to immerse people in their surroundings while they practice yoga. The building takes on a provocative form that suggests it is part of the forest, rather than a separate entity.

Functionality

The layout includes a functional area called the "Back of the house," which contains kitchens and locker rooms. This part of the design is intentionally placed beneath the main yoga space, so it does not disrupt the overall floating effect. Its location ensures that necessary services are easily accessible without detracting from the experience of being in nature.

Natural Integration

Operable sliding windows are key elements of this design. They can open fully to allow fresh air and light into the yoga space. Positioned at eye level for meditation, these windows invite users to connect directly with the outdoors. This feature reinforces the overall purpose of the retreat, which is to provide a harmonious relationship between interior and exterior environments.

Materiality

Wooden beams and columns are used throughout the structure, providing both support and a natural aesthetic. The choice of wood aligns with the intent to blend the building into the forest setting. This material not only adds warmth to the design but also reflects the calming nature of the yoga practice. The architectural choice fosters an environment where people can find peace and relaxation while being surrounded by the natural world.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
