Aqua Rosette is a residential complex set on the lakeside in Jamno, a place known for its rich cultural history. The design takes cues from the vibrant local folk art, particularly the painted chairs called "zydle." Drawing inspiration from the rosette motif prevalent in regional crafts, Aqua Rosette harmonizes modern living with the area's traditions, creating spaces that are functional and culturally meaningful.

Modular Configuration

The design incorporates a modular configuration, allowing for various spatial arrangements. The buildings can face inward to form a rosette-shaped central area or outward to open views towards the lake and surrounding landscape. This flexibility enhances the overall experience, offering privacy and connection with nature simultaneously.

Wrapping Glazed Wall

One of the notable features is a round wall that is entirely glazed, providing wide views from inside the home. This extensive glazing brings natural light into the living spaces and strengthens the bond between the indoor environment and the outside landscape. It promotes a smooth transition between the two, allowing occupants to feel connected to the beauty of their surroundings.

Materiality and Construction

The construction uses a wooden frame filled with clay, referencing traditional half-timbered methods seen in the region. Selecting these materials respects local building traditions while supporting sustainability. Moreover, the project includes a concrete float system that enables the house to rest on the lake’s surface. This feature allows the building to adjust to changing water levels, integrating it more fully into its environment.

Interior Features

A mobile red ladder provides access to the bedroom, showcasing a blend of style and practicality. This element allows for easy movement in the compact space. The interior palette mirrors Jamno’s folk decorations, incorporating white, green, and red hues, as well as floral patterns in the furnishings. These details create a consistent aesthetic throughout the home.

This thoughtful arrangement, especially alongside the fully glazed wall, immerses residents in the tranquil lakeside scenery.

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
