Parco Rossi revitalizes the Navigli Canal in Milan, focusing on the integration of this historical waterway into the city’s landscape. The project spans eight kilometers and aims to enhance ecological connections while promoting sustainable mobility. The design concept emphasizes the establishment of a green corridor that encourages pedestrian and bicycle access, fostering interaction between the community and the canal.

Urban Circulation Layers

The approach includes three levels of circulation: the canal level, the park level, and an elevated urban deck. This layered design allows for different ways to navigate the area. Users can move along the water’s edge or take to the elevated deck for a broader view. Connecting the newly opened canal section to the existing Navigli, the urban deck serves as an engaging pathway for the community.

Ecological Integration

A key aspect of the project is the incorporation of green areas that enhance biodiversity and ecological health. These spaces are thoughtfully placed throughout the landscape and act as important buffers within the urban environment. By integrating nature into the design, the project supports sustainability and provides habitats for various species, enriching the experience of those who visit.

Community Engagement

Gathering points are found throughout the park to encourage interaction among residents and visitors. These areas are carefully positioned to invite community activities and serve as important focal points. With public transportation connections included, access to the revitalized canal is straightforward, ensuring that the project connects well with the wider city transport system.

Water Interaction

A standout feature is the sunken plaza, which includes water elements and floating green installations. This plaza provides direct interaction with the canal, promoting places for relaxation and contemplation. The presence of water enhances the overall aesthetic and creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages users to engage with the natural surroundings.
