The Al Wathba Observation Tower is located in the Al Wathba reserve, a region known for its diverse wildlife and unique landscapes. The tower aims to offer visitors an engaging experience while also serving various functions. It is designed to accommodate people of all ages, providing opportunities for exploration and interaction with the environment. The primary concept focuses on creating spaces that invite people to connect with nature.

Design Inspiration

The design of the tower takes its cues from the shape of the flamingo, a bird commonly found in the area. This inspiration manifests in both the look and function of the structure. The tower includes multiple observation platforms, allowing visitors to enjoy different views of the surrounding landscape. These platforms also serve as places for rest, encouraging people to take a moment to appreciate their surroundings.

Sustainable Features

A notable aspect of the design is the suspended bridge, which provides clear sightlines to the nearby water and coast. This bridge has a small base footprint, which helps limit any negative effects on the environment. The thoughtful design allows for easy access for all visitors, including those with mobility challenges, making it a welcoming space for everyone.

Innovative Elements

There is an optional underwater observing platform that adds a unique dimension to the visitor experience. This feature is particularly appealing to families and children, allowing them to observe aquatic life closely. The incorporation of local features, such as the Barchan sand dunes, further strengthens the connection between the tower and its natural setting.

Materials and Construction

Steel has been chosen for the tower’s structure, ensuring it is robust and long-lasting. The exterior is clad in porcelain, giving the building a modern look. This combination of materials not only increases durability but also allows the structure to fit aesthetically within the landscape.

The observation platforms are designed for both relaxation and activity. They invite visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the nature around them, encouraging a deeper connection with the environment and a greater appreciation for the diverse experiences offered within the reserve.
