The Ouro na Boca Tasting Room at Quinta do Monte d'Oiro is located within a scenic vineyard and serves as a space for wine tasting while enhancing the visitor experience. The design focuses on simplicity and integration, allowing the building to blend with its surroundings. By respecting the historical context of the winery, the Tasting Room creates a connection between the natural landscape and the architectural form.

Architectural Concept

The concept emphasizes the interaction between people and nature. It focuses on creating spaces that encourage engagement with the environment, making the tasting experience more immersive. The layout is carefully arranged to ensure that functionality is prioritized, while also highlighting the beauty of the vineyard.

Key Design Features

One key feature of the Tasting Room is a patio that opens up the space. This outdoor area includes plants, such as olive trees and flowers, that help establish a link to the natural world. The patio contributes to a peaceful atmosphere, allowing soft light to filter into the interior and creating a pleasant environment for visitors.

Light and Spatial Dynamics

The design incorporates a double-height space that allows natural light to fill the room. A cassette roof combined with movable wooden slats helps control the amount of sunlight that enters. This interaction of light throughout the day creates a warm atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience. Visitors can observe how the changing light affects the shape and feel of the room.

Materiality

For its construction, the Tasting Room uses weathered concrete for the overhang and flooring, providing a sense of durability. Wooden slats are another important material, delivering both aesthetic appeal and practical function as they provide shade while enriching the experience inside. Large glass windows open up the space, allowing views of the vineyard and reinforcing the connection between the interior and the landscape.

In the Tasting Room, the play of light through the wooden slats adds depth and interest, inviting visitors to enjoy the tranquil beauty of Quinta do Monte d'Oiro.
