Eucalyptus Cabins with Pyramidal Shapes for Meditation and Well-Being

Project in-detail

Incorporating eucalyptus wood and a unique pyramidal form, these meditation cabins create an environment that promotes well-being while harnessing natural energy flows.
5 key facts about this project
01
Eucalyptus wood is used for its sustainability and acoustic properties.
02
The design optimizes energy flow through large openings in the northeast.
03
Pyramidal forms combine with dome shapes to enhance meditation experiences.
04
A unique dome feature allows users to customize the meditation environment.
05
Copper elements in the structure assist in guiding energy cycles.

The Vastu Meditation Cabins project integrates traditional Indian architectural principles with modern design in a setting that fosters peace and reflection. The cabins are intended for meditation and well-being, drawing on the ideals of Vastushastra. The focus is on enhancing energy flow, especially from the northeast, which creates an environment optimal for meditation practices.

Spatial Orientation and Energy Flow

The design of the cabins emphasizes energy flow by placing them in the northeastern part of the site. This choice avoids obstacles that might disrupt the positive effects of the Ida Stream. Such thoughtful positioning aligns with age-old practices, supporting mental clarity and emotional balance. The layout allows a direct connection to the natural surroundings, while also embodying Vastu principles.

Form and Structure

The pyramidal shape serves as the prominent feature of the cabins, offering both stability and a conducive environment for meditation and acupuncture. This geometric configuration protects occupants from earth deficiencies and allows ether to circulate within the space. Combining pyramids with dome structures allows the design to tap into the regenerative powers of the five elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth, enriching the experience for users.

Materiality

The project makes use of eucalyptus wood, chosen for its sustainable nature and sound quality. Its availability in the local area helps further the project’s eco-friendly goals. Copper elements, particularly featured in the sink on the south side, assist in guiding energy throughout the cabins. This promotes the natural flow of Pranik energy, aimed at supporting the holistic nature of the design.

Meditative Spaces

A dome shape known as 'Chid Akash' defines the central area for meditation in the cabins. This design feature allows users to adapt the space to their needs, whether they prefer a fully enclosed area for better focus or an open space that enables connection with the outside. This flexibility is important for creating a personal haven, where a sense of divine energy and calmness can merge.

A large opening on the northeastern side allows natural light to fill the interiors. This design choice creates a bright atmosphere, ideal for engaging in meditation practices.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
