The Myvatn Crater building is located in the Myvatn region, an area known for its remarkable geological features. The design focuses on functionality while enhancing visitor interaction with the landscape. It appears as a slender white line against the natural surroundings and serves to create a space for reflection and exploration.

Architectural Concept

The design prioritizes a simple and light form. By keeping the profile minimal, the building integrates into the environment without dominating it. This allows visitors to engage with the landscape rather than being distracted by the architecture itself. The concept emphasizes the beauty of the natural setting and invites people to connect with it directly.

Promenade Experience

A significant feature of the design is the experimental promenade, which guides visitors through the site and leads them to the building. This walkway serves as both a means of access and a way to experience the area. It encourages exploration, allowing visitors to appreciate the distinct basaltic formations of the land. The promenade offers a journey that enhances one's understanding of the natural features surrounding Myvatn.

Contextual Integration

The Myvatn Crater building demonstrates a thoughtful relationship with its environment. The design respects the landscape and adheres to principles of sustainability. By limiting its presence, the architecture allows nature to take center stage. This relationship benefits both the building and the site, fostering a sense of balance and harmony.

A notable aspect of the design is how it creates opportunities for quiet moments. Visitors are encouraged to pause and take in the details of the landscape, like the changing light across the geological formations. The connection between the building and its surrounding nature promotes a deeper appreciation for the site's unique characteristics.
