The Ousia Columbarium is located in the calm surroundings of the Riga Forest. It serves as a space for remembrance, allowing visitors to reflect on themes of life and death. The design draws on philosophical ideas that connect birth and death as part of a larger cycle. The thoughtful layout fits well with its natural environment and encourages contemplation.

Site Layout

The layout divides the columbarium into several distinct areas that promote both individual and communal mourning. The entry point, called "Blink," welcomes visitors and guides them toward "The Promenade." This main walkway is elevated at +1.50 and stretches from the north-west to the south-east. It symbolizes the journey from life to death. Vertical elements along The Promenade create a sense of direction, helping visitors move through the space.

Secondary Halls

Next to The Promenade are the A-B-C-D halls, which contain niches for urns. Each hall is designed for privacy while still connecting to the larger structure. This arrangement allows people to engage in personal mourning practices in a space that respects their experiences and emotions.

Water Feature

A key element of the design is "The Pool of Grief." This area uses water to create a soothing environment. Visitors can find solace in the gentle sounds and reflections within this space. It is intended to provide a moment of peace for those who come to remember their loved ones.

Niche Design

The niches consist of vertical elements, each housing three distinct spaces for urns. The use of black granite for their outer covering adds a sense of permanence. Each niche is designed to accommodate individual memorials. Translucent glass front facades allow natural light in, creating a softer atmosphere. Additionally, there are QR codes on the niches that connect visitors to memories through digital means.

The details in the Ousia Columbarium work together to create a respectful area for remembrance and reflection, set against the serene backdrop of the Riga Forest.
