A yoga retreat located in the Cambodian forest combines the themes of spiritual exploration and a strong connection to nature. The design aims to provide guests with an immersive experience, offering a break from the fast pace of modern life. Each hut is carefully placed within the dense foliage, inviting visitors to embark on a journey that concludes with a walkway leading down into the structure. This descent allows guests to connect their perspective with the forest floor, enhancing their relationship with the surrounding environment.

Materiality

The use of domestic stone in the construction of the huts plays a crucial role in connecting the architecture to the landscape. This choice of material helps to blend the structures into their natural settings. Light plays an important part in the design, with cracks in the stone facades that let sunlight enter the interior. This creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, where light and shadow dance throughout the spaces, enhancing the feeling of comfort and calm.

Spatial Arrangement

Thoughtful planning of the hut's layout reflects the guests' spiritual journey. The bottom floor is dedicated to essential daily activities, such as cooking and washing. These functions serve the physical needs of guests. As visitors move upwards, they find spaces that cater more to their spiritual well-being, leading to a bedroom and a meditation pod. This design promotes a transition from everyday tasks to deeper practices, encouraging mindfulness and reflection.

Cultural Connection

Engravings on the stone walls present various yoga postures, linking the architecture to cultural traditions found in Cambodian temple art. These artistic elements not only enhance the visual appeal of the huts but also deepen the guests' engagement with their yoga practices. By incorporating these images, the design reinforces the connection between physical activity and the spirituality of the surrounding environment.

Openings in the upper-level spaces provide views of the forest, drawing nature into the interior. This feature encourages guests to immerse themselves in their surroundings, allowing for a richer experience as they connect with both nature and their inner selves. The careful attention to design details fosters an atmosphere of peace and focused reflection.
