The SUN CAGE project creates a retreat for individuals looking to reconnect with nature. Located along the Eurovelo 6 pathway, which runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Black Sea, it serves as a rest area for cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. The design concept focuses on enhancing outdoor experiences, allowing users to step away from urban life and immerse themselves in the surrounding environment.

Functionality and Space Organization

The layout of SUN CAGE is intuitive and user-centered. It includes four individual sleeping spaces that offer privacy for rest and reflection. Surrounding these rooms is a central communal area that invites social interaction among visitors. This arrangement allows users to find both solitude and community, accommodating different needs in a single space.

Entrance and Connectivity

At the main entrance, a porch serves as a welcoming point. With its wide steps, it encourages users to engage with the landscape as they arrive. This area provides views of the riverside, helping users feel connected to the natural surroundings. As a transition between inside and outside, the porch becomes a space for contemplation and enjoyment of the environment.

Material Choices

The project uses engineered thermowood for its base, chosen for its strength and ability to endure various weather conditions. Also, wooden battens are used in the construction process, which helps minimize waste. These material choices emphasize sustainability and durability while maintaining a warm appearance that fits well within the landscape.

Emotional Connection to Nature

The design of SUN CAGE is closely linked to the landscape, promoting a strong interaction with nature. It does not simply occupy space; it responds to the site's topography, encouraging exploration and engagement. The mix of private sleeping areas and communal spaces, set against the backdrop of the outdoors, supports the goal of creating a setting that fosters both individual reflection and community gatherings.
