The TEAMAKERS GUEST HOUSE is located in the fields and forests of Latvia, providing a peaceful spot for guests to unwind. The design focuses on connecting people with nature while offering comfortable spaces for both relaxation and social interaction. The aim is to create a welcoming environment that allows guests to escape the hustle of daily life and enjoy their surroundings.

Spatial Organization

The guest house has a carefully planned layout that makes the most of natural light. Windows are strategically placed to capture sunlight throughout the day, filling the interior with a warm, inviting glow. This thoughtful arrangement not only enhances the interior but also highlights the beautiful landscape outside.

Open and Connected

Openness is a key feature of the guest house. Solid walls include windows on both sides, providing clear views of the natural world. This design choice invites guests to feel more in touch with their surroundings. It also creates a sense of space that encourages interaction, allowing guests to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors from within.

Flexibility in Use

Skip floors in the design allow for easy movement between different areas of the guest house. This layout enhances the experience by making it feel more connected while giving guests options for privacy when needed. A terrace extends the living space outdoors, perfect for enjoying fresh air during pleasant weather, thus strengthening the link between inside and out.

Material Choices

The use of wood in furniture and frames is an important aspect of the design. This choice aligns with the goal of bringing warmth and comfort to the space. Full windows are used to provide expansive views, allowing guests to take in the scenic beauty of Latvia while they relax inside.

Folding doors create a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor areas, reflecting a design focus on flexibility. This setup lets guests easily adjust their space based on their needs, enhancing their experience and highlighting the peaceful qualities of nature that surround the guest house.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.
