Vale de Moses Yoga Retreat is located in the Serra da Estrela mountains in Portugal. It offers a space designed for relaxation and personal growth. Surrounded by tall pine and eucalyptus trees, the retreat emphasizes a connection to nature. The design aims to blend the interior with the outdoors, creating an environment that encourages wellness and serenity.

V-Shaped Architectural Form

The structure features a V-shaped design formed by two rectangles shifting in different directions. This shape allows the building to fit within the landscape more naturally. The upper floor is raised on round columns that resemble the trunks of nearby trees. This thoughtful placement not only allows for views of the valley but also deepens the relationship between the building and its environment.

Natural Ventilation and User Experience

Natural ventilation is a key aspect of the design. Glass panels are strategically placed to open and allow fresh air to flow through the space. This promotes comfort and creates a calming atmosphere ideal for yoga and meditation. The ground floor includes practical amenities such as changing rooms, showers, a small kitchen, and a garden area, all designed to enhance the overall experience of guests.

Sustainable Design Features

The green roof is an important design element. It is covered with local grasses and plants that help insulate the building and manage rainwater effectively. This feature reduces visual impact on the environment and increases biodiversity. Additionally, a shading system is in place to regulate sunlight, providing warmth in the winter while keeping the interior cool in the summer.

Geothermal heating systems are also integrated, supporting energy efficiency. Every design decision aims to meet the needs of visitors while respecting and preserving the natural surroundings.

The design creates a direct link between the indoor yoga area and nature outside. Large glass openings invite the landscape in, enhancing the sensory experience. This encourages individuals to connect with the beauty of the Serra da Estrela mountains, making nature an integral part of their retreat experience.
