Elevated Terraces and Natural Stone Create a Mindful Space for Wellness

The Yoga House on a Cliff is located in Vale de Moses, Portugal, blending_into its forest surroundings while providing a dedicated space for yoga. The design focuses on balance, promoting a connection with nature and mindful self-awareness among users. By positioning the building on a hillside, it invites people to explore and appreciate the landscape as they ascend.

Vertical Circulation

Vertical circulation is a key aspect of the design, featuring staircases that improve accessibility throughout the space. These elements connect different areas, offering elevated views that enhance users' engagement with the forest. Outdoor terraces are positioned at various heights, creating additional spaces for yoga and meditation, allowing individuals to interact more closely with nature.

Functional Programming

The layout consists of clearly defined zones to optimize user experience. The technical area, which includes showers and changing facilities, is separate from the main studio. This separation allows for a quieter environment focused on practice. The reception area serves as a transitional space, featuring a kitchen nook and lounge with large windows that create a visual link between inside and outside.

Material Considerations

Materials chosen for the Yoga House reflect a commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment. Rough stone, wood, and clay tiles are used throughout, mirroring the local architecture. This careful selection creates a sense of authenticity and ensures that the building feels connected to the surrounding landscape, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Orientation and Lighting

Careful attention to orientation maximizes natural light within the building. The longest facades are positioned to capture sunlight during the day. Clerestory windows further enhance this illumination. This thoughtful approach creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that supports the practice of yoga and mindfulness while helping users feel grounded in nature.

The design features large windows that frame views of the forest, bringing nature into the interior spaces and enriching the experience of tranquility and harmony.
