The Yoga Studio on a hill within the Valle de Moses campus is designed to blend with its natural setting while catering to the needs of a yoga retreat. Located on an elevated site, the studio aims to create a calm environment that encourages mindfulness and reflection. The design emphasizes a close relationship with the landscape, guiding visitors through a meaningful experience from the outside world into a peaceful space.

Pathway Approach

The path leading to the yoga studio is intentionally winding, enhancing the sense of anticipation as visitors approach. Along the way, glimpses of the studio emerge, hinting at the serene space ahead. This design choice encourages visitors to mentally transition from their daily lives, preparing them for what lies ahead.

Elevated Practice Space

Inside, the practice area is elevated and situated on a solid stone base. This design feature ensures both stability and a sense of prominence within the landscape. The interior of the studio benefits from openings that allow natural light and views of the valley to fill the space. These openings can be adjusted to create a cozy atmosphere or to connect with the outdoors, catering to different needs during practice.

Material Integration

The materials used in the yoga studio reflect the overall aesthetic of the Valle de Moses campus. The primary materials are wood and stone, which resonate with the natural surroundings and create a consistent look throughout the retreat. The wooden elements contribute warmth while the stone base provides durability, reinforcing the connection to the rugged landscape.

Natural Climate Control

An essential feature of the studio is the large solar chimney that manages the indoor climate effectively. This chimney allows for natural ventilation while also serving as a fireplace during cooler months. This design adds comfort and a welcoming ambiance, making the space suitable for relaxation and meditation.

Outside, visitors can gather around fire pits, fostering community interaction and enjoyment of the surrounding nature. These thoughtful design elements reinforce the studio's role as a retreat space, promoting both social connections and individual contemplation.
