The design focuses on improving how visitors interact with a national park that features a large swamp and surrounding jungle. The project seeks to provide an elevated experience through innovative structural features that encourage exploration of the natural environment. By changing traditional pathways, it aims to create a distinct connection between architecture and nature.

Innovative Transportation System

A key feature of the design is a unique transportation system that replaces common staircases and elevators with an organic loop modeled after a Ferris wheel. This system allows visitors to rise 40 meters above the ground, giving them wide views over the swamp. It serves not only as a means to get from one place to another but also as a guide, enhancing the overall experience as guests move through the park.

Functional Area Layout

The layout of the project is carefully planned to create a smooth visitor journey. The ground floor includes essential facilities such as a café, an entrance, ticket storage, and restrooms. This creates a welcoming area for visitors to gather before starting their exploration. On the first floor, additional café spaces and educational exhibitions encourage engagement with the park's ecology. The second floor offers more exhibition opportunities, along with another terrace for viewing.

Varied Visitor Activities

The site layout also promotes different activities for families and groups. It includes a playground and camping sites, which encourage visitors to take part in a range of recreational experiences. This thoughtful design ensures that everyone, from young children to adults, can enjoy the park in different ways. It enhances the overall visitor experience and allows for a deeper interaction with the natural world.

Architectural Harmony

The design emphasizes a close relationship between people and nature. While specific materials used in the project are not mentioned, the architecture aims to blend thoughtfully with the environment. It respects the surrounding landscape and offers visitors a chance to connect with the unique ecosystems of the national park.

The raised platform invites visitors to take in sweeping views of the swamp before they begin their journey into the depths of the park’s natural offerings.

MICROHOME 10: Celebrating Small-Scale Living with €100,000 Prize Fund and Kingspan’s Innovation

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
