Archways Over London is a project situated in the busy environment of London, designed to bring together social housing and public green spaces. It focuses on meeting housing needs while enhancing the city’s natural landscape. The overall design concept revolves around creating a new green urban area, emphasizing height and adaptability to encourage community living.

Repurposing Underutilized Spaces

The design identifies and changes previously unused urban areas, such as old warehouses, industrial zones, parking lots, and spaces above train tracks. By raising housing off the ground, the project turns these locations into walkable parkways. This new layout encourages interaction and connection among residents, creating a lively community atmosphere.

Modular Structural System

A key feature of the design is its modular structural system. This allows housing units to be easily added, taken away, or adjusted as community needs change. Such flexibility tackles the issue of keeping housing relevant and suitable for the population. It makes it possible for the design to adapt over time in line with demographic shifts and urban growth.

Concrete Archways and Green Landscapes

Concrete archways form a vital part of the structure, providing solid support for the elevated parkways. These archways serve as pathways that link different urban spaces while blending with the existing architecture of London. The landscaped parkways create a foundation for social housing and extend the city’s green areas, promoting well-being through better access to nature.

Urban Agriculture and Sustainability

The project also highlights opportunities for urban farming and renewable energy, such as solar panels, within the elevated green spaces. This commitment to sustainability enriches residents' interaction with their environment. It encourages a community-oriented lifestyle that values both ecological and social aspects.

The design features elevated gardens that provide peaceful views of the city while enhancing the sense of community among residents.
