The Black Rock project is located in Iceland and aims to enhance local cinema culture through a well-thought-out design. The concept focuses on merging built spaces with the surrounding landscape to foster engagement and artistic expression. It meets the needs of filmmakers, photographers, and audiences, providing an experience that emphasizes interaction with both the environment and cinematic art.

Key Features

The site includes three main elements: a food truck, a billboard, and a circular stage. The food truck is placed on an elevated platform at the northern edge, offering refreshments and inviting social interactions. This positioning not only serves practical purposes but also encourages a sense of community among visitors who gather in the area.

Communication and Interaction

The billboard is operated by Black Rock and plays a significant role in connecting the site with its audience. It features announcements of events and showcases community moments. This communication tool is designed to strengthen engagement and involvement, without any commercial intent, thereby reinforcing the importance of the cinematographic experience.

Promoting Creativity

The circular stage accommodates mobile filmmaking, specifically suited for 9x16 portrait format presentations. Visitors can submit their work through an app, allowing them to have their creations displayed continuously. This feature encourages active participation and supports creativity, transforming the space into a dynamic platform for contemporary cinema.

Material Integration

Materials were chosen with care, focusing on sustainability and functionality. Reinforced concrete is used for the foundation, providing durability, while a steel frame structure enhances stability with bolted connections. The galvanized steel handrails and posts maintain a clean look, left unfinished to blend into the natural surroundings. Additionally, recycled timber is used for the ceiling finish, offering warmth and reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible design.

The Black Rock project balances structure and landscape, characterized by an emphasis on accessible, community-centered cinema.
