5 key facts about this project
Hotel Monte d'Oiro is located in the vast vine fields of the Monte d'Oiro vineyard and serves as a new addition designed for hospitality. The project merges the history of the winery with modern guest experiences. By responding to its surroundings, the design blends the natural landscape with architectural form, reflecting an awareness of the specific context.
Design Concept
The fundamental idea of the design is to create a connection between the guests and the vineyard. Inspiration comes from local architecture, specifically the traditional styles found in the Lisbon area. This approach uses conventional building methods to reduce the tourist footprint on the natural environment, ensuring that the new structure fits within the landscape.
Site Integration
The main building grows out of the natural slope, allowing guests to appreciate wide-ranging views of the landscape. This positioning enhances the visual experience and creates two enclosed courtyards, promoting both privacy and social interaction. The layout divides the hotel into distinct areas, with the west side containing guest rooms and the east side offering recreational spaces, all linked by a footbridge and usable roof.
Spatial Experience
The design encourages exploration and movement throughout the property, inviting guests to engage with the landscape. Elevated sections provide opportunities for a fuller experience of the vineyard, deepening the understanding of local wine culture. Open communal areas, designed as courtyards, serve as gathering spots that strengthen the sense of community within the hotel.
Light and shadow play an important role in creating different atmospheres in these open spaces. The arrangement of the building and its elements adds a layer of complexity to the surroundings, enhancing the overall experience and inviting visitors to traverse their environment.
