The Mega Dunes Eco Lodges project is located in the Arabian Oryx Protected Area within the Empty Quarter, known as Rub Al Khali. This area is a vast desert, making it an ideal location for a special retreat designed for comfort and sustainability. The overall concept of the lodges is inspired by the natural landscape and the stars above, creating a connection between nature and hospitality.

Architectural Concept

The Eco Lodges are arranged to reflect the formation of the Perseus Constellation, allowing guests to feel a connection to the night sky. This design encourages privacy while also promoting community through pathways that link the lodges. Walking these paths offers a chance for guests to enjoy both personal solitude and social interaction in a natural setting.

Materiality and Sustainability

Local stone and concrete are the main materials used for constructing the lodges. These choices ensure that the buildings can withstand the harsh conditions of the desert environment. The local stone blends with the surroundings, while concrete provides durability and stability. Additionally, a solar farm on site generates energy for the lodges, reinforcing a commitment to sustainability and reducing reliance on outside power sources.

Design Features and Guest Experience

Each lodge includes essential spaces such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and private outdoor decks. These decks offer unobstructed views of the desert, allowing guests to fully experience the landscape. With an emphasis on comfort, the interior layouts encourage relaxation while remaining open to the beauty of the outdoors. Key features, such as observatories for stargazing, invite guests to engage with the clear night skies.

Unique Interactions with Nature

Astronomy plazas are part of the overall design, providing special areas for guests to connect with the celestial environment. These dedicated spaces encourage visitors to engage with the natural beauty surrounding them. The design not only offers a place for rest but also emphasizes the relationship between the lodges and the desert landscape, enhancing the experience of being immersed in nature.
