Timeless Cave is located in the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, southeast of central Abu Dhabi. It features a cylindrical tower designed to evoke the essence of a primal cave while incorporating modern architectural ideas. The project creates opportunities for exploration and interaction with the surrounding landscape, skillfully blending natural and built environments.

Conceptual Framework

The design hinges on the idea of a cave as a foundational form of architecture, emphasizing upward movement that enhances the user experience. This concept fosters a connection between past traditions and contemporary practices, reflecting the cultural backdrop of the UAE while presenting a vision that looks toward the future.

Architectural Form

The cylindrical tower is the main feature, characterized by its raw and simple shape that contrasts sharply with the flatness of the desert. This form acts not only as a physical structure but also as a visual landmark that encourages visitors to engage with their surroundings. Its placement within the natural environment enhances the aesthetic qualities, creating a sense of unity between architecture and landscape.

Material Considerations

Material choices are significant, particularly the use of a low carbon alternative for concrete called Finite. The design also incorporates desert sand in its original form. These selections prioritize sustainability and aim to reduce environmental impact, showing a commitment to ecological balance and the responsible use of local resources.

User Experience

A boardwalk winds through the dunes, inviting users to explore the area. This path enhances accessibility and connects people with the beauty of the wetland. The combination of the tower and boardwalk offers a space for reflection and engagement, culminating in an elevated viewpoint that provides expansive vistas of the surroundings.
