The Pavilosta Poet Huts are located in Pavilosta, Latvia, a coastal town known for its fishing heritage. The design concept connects with the natural landscape and reflects the local culture. The huts serve multiple functions, supporting both individual living and community interaction. Emphasis on modularity and sustainability shapes the overall design, making the structures adaptable to various needs while remaining visually integrated with their surroundings.

Functional Zoning

The layout organizes different areas based on their specific purposes. It includes parking, modular houses, communal spaces, a dining area with a small kitchen, and waste management facilities. Each space is designed to enhance user interaction and promote community engagement. Additionally, secluded open sky areas for meditation provide tranquil spots for residents to unwind and find peace in nature.

Cylindrical Forms

Cylindrical shapes feature prominently in the design, moving away from traditional square structures. This choice boosts the aesthetic appeal and improves sound quality inside the huts, creating a calming environment. The rounded forms blend nicely with the surrounding landscape, helping the buildings coexist with their environment instead of standing apart from it.

Material Selection

Natural materials play a significant role in the construction of the huts, highlighting the project's focus on sustainability. Profiled and glued beams or logs create a sturdy framework, while metal profiles and thermally modified wood add strength and durability. Interior spaces use natural parquet or parquet boards, complemented by marble tiles. The choice of materials supports a friendly and healthy living space, promoting a close relationship with nature.

Meditation Areas

Meditation areas are thoughtfully integrated throughout the design, offering quiet retreats that welcome fresh air and sunlight. These spaces connect residents with the outdoors, encouraging relaxation and contemplation. By providing dedicated zones for mindfulness, the design enhances the overall quality of life, making it easier for individuals to find calm amid the busy rhythms of daily living.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
