## Overview

Located in the mountainous terrain of Iceland, the Iceland Ski Snow Cabin, referred to as "The Hearth," serves as a functional retreat for skiers and nature enthusiasts. The design is intended to withstand the region's challenging climatic conditions while offering a cozy atmosphere that encourages engagement with the breathtaking surroundings.

## Material Selection and Sustainability

The choice of materials for The Hearth reflects a commitment to environmental harmony and performance. Wood features prominently throughout the interior, providing warmth and an inviting ambiance. A waffle flooring system ensures structural integrity while offering thermal insulation, crucial for comfort during harsh winters. The exterior incorporates a tile roof, selected for its durability and ability to resist snow accumulation, alongside expansive glass facades that maximize natural light and connection to the outdoors. The foundation is constructed from stone, enhancing stability and permanence.

Sustainability is a key consideration in the design, with the integration of a wood-burning stove that utilizes local resources, minimizing reliance on fossil fuels. This approach aligns with sustainable practices and contributes to the cabin's overall energy efficiency.

## Spatial Organization and User Experience

The spatial layout of The Hearth is designed to create distinct zones for relaxation and activity. The ground floor is characterized by an open layout that unifies kitchen, living, and dining areas, facilitating movement and interaction. In contrast, the upper floor provides private sleeping quarters that prioritize tranquility while offering extensive views of the surrounding landscape.

Outdoor integration is a notable aspect of the design, with strategically placed terraces and a sauna room enhancing the user's connection to nature. These features not only invite guests to immerse themselves in the snowy environment but also maximize sun exposure for enhanced outdoor enjoyment. The thoughtful arrangement of spaces supports accessibility and circulation, catering to the needs of visitors exploring the winter landscape.
