The Yoga House, titled "Journey to Nirvana," is designed as a space for self-discovery and personal growth through yoga practice. Located in a peaceful environment, the structure embodies principles from Hindu philosophy. It interprets the journey toward enlightenment as a process of letting go of layers that inhibit one's true self, known as Brahman. The building features a smooth, curved form that appears to float above the ground, creating a unique experience for those who enter.

Conceptual Framework

The design reflects the journey through physical space, with each element symbolizing the transition from ego to enlightenment. Upon entering, visitors encounter a solid stone wall that represents initial confinement and the restrictions of the ego. This choice minimizes light and views, emphasizing the start of an inner journey toward deeper self-awareness.

Spatial Progression

Moving through the building, users transition into a wooden layer with a lattice of wooden slats and rope. This feature offers filtered light and partial views of the outside world, illustrating a gradual release from limitations. Each space is thoughtfully connected, guiding individuals toward a more open environment that leads to the yoga room.

The yoga room marks the journey's endpoint. It is designed to be open and bright, providing vast views and plenty of natural light. This final space stands for Nirvana—a liberated state free of barriers—inviting users to engage fully with both their surroundings and nature.

Materiality and Flexibility

The choices made in the Yoga House support its narrative and practical use. Local stone is used, cut into rectangular formats that allow light openings to signify the start of the user's journey. Natural wood is another important material, shaped into dovetailing slats that cover the ceiling, floor, and some walls, adding warmth and texture to the interior.

The yoga space is also adaptable. It features sliding glass partitions and curtains, which allow for control over light and temperature, accommodating different needs. This design encourages personal reflection and connection with the environment, made more engaging through openings that provide views of the landscape.

The curved wooden ceiling in the yoga room aligns with the Path to Nirvana. It guides users as they make their way toward enlightenment. This blending of structure with narrative reflects a commitment to fostering a strong connection between individuals and their inner selves.
