The Yoga House on the Cliff is located in the Vale de Moses valley farm at the foothills of the Serra de Estrela Mountain. It serves as a yoga retreat designed to connect practitioners with their natural surroundings. The design focuses on spatial interaction and flow, creating an environment that supports various activities related to yoga and wellness.

Spatial Organization

The interior layout of the yoga house is designed to encourage exploration. It includes distinct areas for yoga practice, relaxation, and a café. The central entrance functions as a hub, offering multiple pathways for users. This thoughtful arrangement enhances accessibility and fosters a welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can easily navigate the space and engage with one another, promoting a sense of community.

Circulation and Connectivity

Two staircases are strategically placed in the café and yoga areas to facilitate circulation. This design helps minimize congestion and allows for smooth movement between spaces. By maintaining open sightlines, users can connect visually, enhancing their interaction and making the environment feel collaborative. The flow of the design supports an easy transition between activities and allows for both social engagement and personal reflection.

Spatial Hierarchy

The yoga house features a distinct spatial hierarchy, with the yoga area being the tallest section. This height accommodates specialized practices, such as aerial yoga. The roof extends from this area and includes an observatory at its peak. This undulating form creates visual interest and connects the structure to the natural landscape, blending the built and natural environments.

Natural Elements and Materials

Large glass windows characterize the yoga and café spaces, providing expansive views and a strong connection to the outdoors. In contrast, smaller windows in the rest area ensure privacy while allowing softer light to enter. Concrete is used for structural components, which supports the building's integrity and contributes to a cohesive design.

Nearby, a zen garden enhances the tranquil approach to the yoga house. It invites users to reflect and engage with nature thoughtfully. The design incorporates sustainability through the use of grey water from the bathrooms to irrigate the garden, highlighting a commitment to environmental responsibility.

The Yoga House on the Cliff is more than just a place for yoga practice; it encourages a rich sensory experience. Through careful design decisions, the project embodies wellness and mindfulness. The rooftop and expansive windows provide not only architectural interest but also a deep connection to the stunning landscape of the Serra de Estrela Mountain, making the retreat a serene environment for reflection and relaxation.
