Curve and Calm: A Rammed Earth Meditation Cabin With Bamboo Elements

Project in-detail

Constructed with rammed earth and bamboo, this meditation cabin emphasizes a calming, oval shape within a circular tree canopy, providing a tranquil space for reflection and yoga.
5 key facts about this project
01
Rammed earth walls provide natural thermal mass and insulation.
02
Bamboo is used for the innovative Lamella roof structure.
03
The design integrates the Koru, a sacred Maori symbol.
04
High windows enhance natural light while maintaining privacy.
05
The cabin is surrounded by a circular arrangement of trees for natural harmony.

The meditation cabin is designed to create a space for reflection and spiritual connection. Set within a circle of trees, the cabin harmonizes with the natural landscape, serving as both a practical and contemplative environment. The overall design is influenced by sacred geometry, promoting a sense of balance and reverence that enhances the meditative experience.

Design Concept

The focus on sacred geometry shapes the design, reflecting harmony in the structure. Dimensions are guided by the Golden Section, a principle known for its role in creating visually pleasing proportions. This approach fosters an environment where users can experience a deeper sense of connection and peace.

Spatial Arrangement

Inside the cabin, gently curved walls form a soft oval that creates a calming atmosphere. High windows are strategically placed to allow natural light to flow in, while maintaining a link to the vibrant outside world. Glass doors facilitate easy movement between the shelter of the cabin and the natural surroundings, enriching the experience of tranquility.

Materiality and Functionality

Rammed earth is used for the walls, providing warmth and a strong connection to the ground. Bamboo plays a crucial role in the roof design and the patio, highlighting a commitment to sustainability. The roof features a Lamella structure with multiple arches, introducing a natural look while enhancing sound quality, especially during rain.

Interior Features

The cabin includes specific areas for meditation and yoga, showcasing a flexible use of space. The bamboo patio extends the functionality of the cabin, offering an outdoor area for similar practices. Users are invited to engage with both the inside and outside, fostering a connection to nature.

The curved ceiling, formed from the bamboo roof, introduces a welcomed rhythm to the space. It allows the sounds of nature to enter, enriching the overall atmosphere and enhancing the experience of meditation.
