The Yoga House on a Cliff offers a tranquil setting where people can focus on wellness and self-discovery. Located on a picturesque cliff, it serves as both a community gathering space and a personal retreat. The design brings together the principles of yoga, emphasizing connection to oneself and to nature, creating a welcoming environment for various practices.

Energy Spaces

The layout includes several energy spaces that reflect chakra principles. The entrance, known as Muladhara, provides a grounding experience as visitors arrive. This warm welcome leads into the covered communal area, Vishuddha, which supports social interaction and group activities. From here, pathways direct visitors to the reflective space, Ajna, that encourages mindfulness, while the main practice area, Sahasrara, allows for yoga sessions, fostering a deep connection to the practice.

Experiential Zones

Careful consideration is given to how each area functions to support individual and group needs. The sheltered entrance helps protect visitors from the elements while enhancing the inviting atmosphere. Interactive spaces promote informal gatherings, creating a blend of social engagement and quiet reflection. The thoughtful design of pathways guides users through the different parts of the house, linking indoor and outdoor experiences for a cohesive journey.

Material Selection

The project utilizes specific materials that enhance both function and appearance. A clay roof contributes to insulation while also adding character to the building. The use of a wooden portal frame provides stability and visual continuity. Natural light floods the interior through a solar-powered glass roof, creating an inviting atmosphere and reducing energy needs. Corten steel wraps around the building, ensuring durability against the weather, while stone masonry reinforces structural strength and longevity.

Design Outcome

The Yoga House emphasizes wellness and community involvement through careful design. The thoughtful arrangement of spaces creates a peaceful environment that supports various practices. Light and open areas allow for connection with the outside world, while well-planned pathways invite contemplation. This design promotes an ongoing relationship between occupants and their surroundings, enhancing the overall experience in alignment with the principles of yoga.
