The Tili Wine Guest Home project is located in the Umbrian Valley, a region celebrated for its beautiful vineyards and gentle hills. The design includes five guest homes along with shared dining and wine tasting spaces. The main idea is to create a strong connection between guests and the surrounding nature, providing a warm environment that reflects the spirit of vineyard hospitality.

Design Integration

The project carefully uses the natural terrain to blend the buildings into the landscape. Each guest home is placed in a way that reduces its visual presence while offering great views of the mountains nearby. This arrangement allows guests to enjoy both privacy and opportunities to interact with one another, encouraging exploration of the peaceful vineyard.

Materials and Construction

In terms of materials, Corten steel is used for the façade, along with steel glass screens and doors. These choices not only provide a modern appearance but also ensure durability in the outdoor environment. Additionally, Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) is employed for the structural and interior elements, promoting efficient construction while also being environmentally responsible.

Outdoor Gathering Spaces

The layout features designated outdoor areas for social gatherings, where friends can enjoy wine tasting and shared meals. The path leading to the guest homes is thoughtfully designed and partially concealed by hills, encouraging a sense of discovery as guests make their way through the site. This outdoor space acts as a central point for guest interactions, fostering a welcoming community atmosphere.

Entrance Experience

Guests arrive through a tunnel-like entrance that creates a unique transition into the homes. This design detail offers a warm welcome and connects visitors to the vineyard's charm right from the start. The entryway mixes different elements like space, light, and natural features. It establishes an inviting tone for the relaxing experience that awaits inside.

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
