Inner Echo is a meditation cabin located in Portugal, designed to create a strong connection between its users and the natural landscape. The architectural concept emphasizes a form that appears to grow out of the ground, blending effectively with the environment. This design aims to cultivate an atmosphere of peace and calm, which is essential for meditation. The cabin serves as a space not just for solitude but for a deeper engagement with nature.

Architecture Concept

The arrangement of the cabin is carefully planned to provide distinct areas for meditation while also including space for mechanical equipment and built-in planters for nearby plants. This layout supports the primary function of the cabin as a peaceful retreat for contemplation. The design encourages interaction between the inside and outside, enabling users to connect easily with the changing elements of nature.

Materials Selection

Important materials used in the construction include timber and corten steel. Timber is chosen to create warm and welcoming interiors, while corten steel, known for its durability, naturally ages within the landscape. These materials contribute to both the practicality and the look of the cabin, reinforcing the overall vision of the project.

Structural Integration

The design includes features like external steps and planter boxes, enhancing the connection with the landscape. Sliding glass doors allow movement between meditation spaces and outdoor areas, filling the cabin with natural light and offering clear views of the surroundings. This integration helps to create an experience that feels connected to the outdoors, promoting a sense of tranquility.

Sustainable Systems

Mechanical systems have been incorporated in a way that aligns with the values of sustainability and practicality. An underground water tank supplies running water, paired with a system for manual filling and a mechanical pump for the sink. Energy storage units are cleverly placed in the cabinetry, maintaining a clean design while providing necessary functions.

The area around the cabin is filled with native plants that enhance the overall experience. Species such as rockroses and Portuguese wild lavender add character and connection to local ecology. The integration of these plants is more than just aesthetics; it deepens the calming effect intended by the cabin's design, inviting occupants to appreciate and meditate upon their natural surroundings.
