5 key facts about this project
01
Terrace areas enhance outdoor interaction for guests.
02
A flexible layout supports various event configurations.
03
Low-maintenance surfaces are integrated throughout the design.
04
Natural light is maximized through large windows and openings.
05
A streamlined circulation plan ensures efficient movement between zones.

The design presents a well-thought-out arrangement that focuses on specific uses within a larger environment. With designated areas for hotels, dining, and events, the layout promotes accessibility and encourages interaction among visitors. This project emphasizes a clear flow, ensuring that each space serves its purpose effectively while creating a cohesive atmosphere.

Hotel Area

The hotel portion consists of Zones 1 and 2, featuring organized floor plans and an axonometric view that showcase a practical layout for guest rooms and related services. The inclusion of a terrace area offers guests an outdoor space for relaxation, enhancing their overall stay. Section plans illustrate how the vertical spaces connect, making movement between different levels straightforward.

Restaurant Design

In Zone 3, the restaurant adopts an open layout that aims to create a welcoming environment. The axonometric view highlights the restaurant's focus on social dining experiences. The section plan defines how the dining area interacts with other zones, allowing for smooth service and easy access for patrons. The arrangement on both the first and ground floors balances comfort with functionality.

Event Space

Zone 4 serves as a flexible area for events, capable of accommodating different types of gatherings. The section plan details its adaptability, demonstrating how the space can be configured according to specific needs. A basement provides additional support functions, maximizing efficiency in space usage. The ground floor and axonometric views confirm the important links between the event area and other parts of the complex.

Circulation and Connectivity

The design features a circulation diagram that connects all zones, including a bridge that links different sections of the complex. This element not only supports ease of movement but also contributes to overall clarity in navigation.

A final detail worth noting is the emphasis on visual connections between indoor spaces and the outdoors, fostering interaction with the surrounding environment.

MICROHOME 10: Celebrating Small-Scale Living with €100,000 Prize Fund and Kingspan’s Innovation

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
