Tili Vini Guest Homes is located in the scenic Italian countryside near Assisi. The design aims to blend the experience of wine culture with nature, focusing on how the physical spaces can engage the senses. The intention is to create a place where visitors can feel a lasting connection to the landscape while enjoying the tranquil setting.

Design Intentions and Spatial Configuration

The architecture responds to the surrounding environment, using materials and textures that reflect the local culture. The main building includes a tasting room and wine store topped with a concave roof, which provides an intimate atmosphere enhanced by low lighting. At the same time, the expansive terrace above, equipped with a swimming pool, allows guests to gather outdoors and enjoy extensive views of the nearby vineyards and hills.

Guest Homes Design

The guest homes are designed as private, welcoming spaces that naturally blend with the landscape. They rise gracefully from the earth and the surrounding crops, emphasizing a simple approach that allows for easy building and minimal environmental impact. Each unit is arranged to align with the vineyard's layout, allowing for pleasing views while respecting the existing natural features.

Materiality and Sensory Engagement

Materials are chosen to enhance comfort and appearance. Stone serves as a foundational element, while wood is employed to bring warmth and sustainability to the spaces. The thoughtful arrangement of these materials helps create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Large windows and terraces provide ample natural light and ventilation, making it easy to enjoy the stunning sights of the sun rising and setting over the landscape.

Architectural Features and Experience

The layouts of the homes and the main building include essential amenities such as living spaces, kitchens, and bathrooms. The design emphasizes both privacy and shared areas, allowing guests to connect while also enjoying solitude. Notably, the design's focus on natural light and airflow creates pleasant indoor climates that enhance the overall experience for visitors.

Every detail of the project is carefully considered, offering guests the chance to relax outdoors, surrounded by the beautiful sights and sounds of the vineyard. The experience is enriched by the local environment, inviting a deeper appreciation of both wine and nature.

`
Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
