5 key facts about this project
The design is located in a quiet valley landscape, aiming to create an environment that reflects the principles of harmony, balance, and form found in Yoga practices. The project integrates geometric shapes inspired by the human body, drawing from Leonardo da Vinci's Vitruvian man. By blending these shapes with the natural terrain, the architecture promotes a meaningful connection between people and their surroundings.
Geometric Structure
A dual-level approach allows for flexibility, ensuring the space can adapt to different user needs. The main building features three rotated squares that give the design a unique appearance while maintaining structural stability through an interconnected triangular framework. This method supports a self-build construction option, which can engage users in the creation of their space.
Spatial Organization
The design encourages movement through interconnected pathways that provide various routes to navigate the site. Key access points include the main entrance, an access ramp, and pathways leading to gardens, a climbing area, a kitchen, and a lounge deck. The thoughtful arrangement creates an open flow, enhancing interaction and promoting a sense of community.
Sustainable Practices
Energy efficiency is a priority, with renewable solar power generated through photovoltaic panels installed on the roof. Additionally, a backup system using carbon-based oil fuel allows for reliable energy supply when needed. Water management strategies complement this focus on sustainability, as rainwater is collected and greywater is recycled to support the gardens, creating an integrated ecosystem.
Structural Integrity and Adaptability
Timber frames provide the building's structure, with custom joinery at the corners ensuring strength and cohesion. Each triangular frame connects to its neighbors, which helps to evenly distribute weight and load. The design accommodates changing seasons with detachable covers that can be adjusted for insulation. This feature allows air to circulate during warmer months and offers protection during colder periods. A fully glazed triangular frame, featuring colored glass, captures views of the sunset, reinforcing the relationship between the interior space and the natural landscape outside.
