"WORMHOLE" is an architectural retreat designed to promote psychological well-being through a dedicated space for meditation. Located within a natural landscape, the cabin aims to create a strong bond between the individual and the environment, serving as a place to reflect and connect with nature. The overall design concept is rooted in geometric shapes, particularly triangles and circles. These shapes symbolize the various aspects of human experience and the ongoing quest for self-discovery.

Geometry and Symbolism

The cabin's design utilizes geometric forms to communicate its core ideas. The triangle represents the human body, encompassing physical, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions. In contrast, the circle represents infinity and the search for understanding. Together, these shapes form the foundation of the architecture, encouraging users to explore their inner selves while considering their connection to the larger universe.

Architectural Form and Materiality

The structure of the cabin consists of a timber frame combined with local birch wood panels, using concealed joints that create a clean look. It is elevated on adjustable supports, allowing the cabin to adapt to different terrains and enhancing its relationship with the natural surroundings. A significant feature is the circular window, which offers clear views of the landscape, helping users engage with nature and enriching their meditative experience.

Functional Layout

Inside, the design emphasizes practicality with a well-organized layout. A dry toilet provides convenient access while simplifying maintenance through an external cleaning option. Key elements, such as a small kitchenette with water storage, a sink, and a hot plate, enable users to be self-sufficient in this compact space. Storage areas for personal items are carefully integrated, ensuring the interior remains organized and inviting for reflection.

Multi-Use Elements

A noteworthy aspect of the cabin is the circular space that serves as both a bed and a meditation seat. This design maximizes the use of space and provides a specific area for rest and contemplation. Next to this feature, a concealed closet holds relaxation aids like scented teas and candles, enhancing the calming atmosphere of the cabin.

A small battery-powered electric generator is discreetly placed within a hidden compartment, meeting energy needs without disrupting the design. A mosquito net, designed for the circular window, increases comfort while allowing users to stay connected to the outdoors, ensuring an uninterrupted experience of nature, both day and night.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
