The design is situated in a region where ground, water, air, and fire coexist, creating a powerful connection between nature and the built environment. The concept revolves around the idea of humanity as the fifth element, responsible for shaping and interacting with the landscape. The main purpose is to serve as a visitor center, offering a space for exploration and engagement within the natural beauty of Iceland.

Circular Design and Spatial Layout

The building adopts a circular shape that emphasizes continuity and connection. This form allows for wide views of the surrounding scenery while appearing to blend into the landscape. By creating a space that references the natural ground below, the design invites visitors to appreciate the elements surrounding them. The circular layout encourages movement and exploration, making the experience feel open and inviting.

Visitor Interaction and Pathways

As a visitor center, the function is to provide a warm, welcoming environment for guests. Inside, the design focuses on comfort and a connection to the landscape outside. Visitors may choose from two paths: one leads to dark castles, while the other brings them directly to the center. This choice enhances their experience, offering different ways to engage with the environment.

Environmental Considerations

A key aspect of the design is the complete removal of asphalt, promoting a natural approach to the site. Replacing hard surfaces, the pathways for vehicles and pedestrians are constructed with a dense filling material. This choice supports both comfort and visibility, allowing visitors to enjoy clear views of the natural setting. The intention is to create a landscape that feels unencumbered by man-made elements.

Central Elements and Atmosphere

The visitor center features an open fireplace designed to attract guests and foster a sense of community. This element serves as a gathering point, making the space feel welcoming and warm. The fireplace creates an atmosphere for relaxation, adding to the overall experience. It connects visitors to the elemental themes present in the site and encourages them to spend time in a space that celebrates nature.

Through its thoughtful design, the project embodies the natural beauty of Iceland, allowing the building to coexist harmoniously with its surroundings. The focus on circular form, visitor interaction, and environmental integration highlights a deep respect for the landscape that surrounds it.
