05
Inclusive design principles are central, accommodating visitors with varying mobility levels.

The design is located in Kemeri National Park and serves as an observation tower that invites all visitors. Its primary feature is a circular ramp that leads to the observation point, highlighting the focus on accessibility. This design allows individuals of all mobility levels to engage with the natural landscape, which enriches their experience as they navigate through the park.

Design Concept

The concept emphasizes inclusivity by providing an easy route to the observation tower. The circular shape of the ramp is crafted to ensure a clear path for ascension while following necessary ramp regulations. As visitors make their way up, they can take in different views of their surroundings. This gradual elevation fosters a stronger connection to the landscape.

Materiality

The facade of the building incorporates wooden strips, creating a natural look that harmonizes with the environment. These materials help the structure blend in while also standing out as a visual marker for the area. Openings in the facade grow larger as one ascends, letting in light and framing views, thus giving visitors a sense of anticipation as they approach the observation point.

Spatial Experience

The cylindrical form of the observation tower enhances visibility and allows for panoramic views from every direction. This shape invites users to explore the rich landscapes of Kemeri National Park. The experience is designed to shift as visitors move upward. At lower levels, they are surrounded by the lush flora, gradually transitioning to expansive views at the top.

As people climb the ramp, they discover various perspectives of the natural beauty within the park. Reaching the observation deck, they are rewarded with broad views that highlight the area's ecological richness. Each moment spent in this tower enhances their appreciation for the landscape, creating a deeper bond between people and nature.

The Next House: USA — A Global Call to Reimagine the American Suburb

`
Competition organisers

Buildner is launching The Next House: USA, a global architecture competition that challenges architects, designers, and thinkers to reimagine the American suburban home for the 21st century. For decades, the suburban house has symbolized comfort and stability, but today it often reflects excess, isolation, and environmental strain. This competition asks: how can the American home evolve to address climate urgency, economic pressures, and shifting social values?

Participants are tasked with designing a prototype home of no more than 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²) for a household of two adults and one child. The design should be compact yet generous, adaptable, sustainable, affordable, and replicable across diverse U.S. contexts. More than a design exercise, the competition aims to spark a conversation about how homes can support healthier, smarter, and more connected communities.

The total prize fund is $20,000 USD. The final registration deadline is May 20, 2026, and winners will be announced on September 22, 2026. The Next House: USA invites architects, students, and visionaries worldwide to redefine what the American home means today—and what it should mean tomorrow.
