05
The structure's minimalist form reflects the cultural identity of Iceland.

The Lookout Point "Northern Eye" (Norður auga) is situated in the breathtaking landscape of Iceland and serves as an observation point for tourists. The design focuses on simplicity and practical use, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Its minimalist form encourages exploration, allowing visitors to fully engage with the view of the nearby volcano.

Design Concept

At the heart of the Lookout Point design is a circular shape with a diameter of 20 meters. This layout simplifies movement for visitors, making it easy to navigate. A through passage is incorporated to help people stay on an intended route while enjoying the landscape. This design promotes a connection between the structure and its natural setting, reflecting the essence of Iceland's culture.

Materiality

Materials chosen for the Lookout Point are essential to its function and appearance. The structure uses glass, wood, metal, anti-slip metal pads on the steps, and concrete. Glass allows light to filter through, creating an open and inviting space. Wood and metal contribute to the structure's strength and durability, important for a location with variable weather. The anti-slip pads enhance safety, showing a clear concern for user experience.

Architectural Language

The project combines modern design with influences from traditional Icelandic architecture. This blend results in a building that feels relevant to its context. Clean lines and simple forms allow the structure to complement the surrounding landscape, highlighting the natural beauty of the area. This architectural language ties the human experience to the site's unique geological features.

As visitors approach the Lookout Point, they discover a thoughtful arrangement of materials and design that enhance their appreciation of the stunning views. Each aspect is crafted to celebrate the landscape while offering a comfortable space for reflection and observation.
