Maison 24 is an innovative architectural project designed with a focus on sustainability and functionality. This residential structure embodies principles of eco-friendly design and efficient space utilization while promoting a close relationship with its natural surroundings. The architecture reflects a modern interpretation of living spaces that respond dynamically to environmental conditions.

The core of the design revolves around a circular form that facilitates optimal solar exposure throughout the day. This rotation capability allows the structure to adapt as the sun moves, enhancing energy efficiency and natural light intake. The modular layout efficiently organizes living areas, including a spacious living room, functional kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and compact bathrooms, all while ensuring seamless flow between spaces. Each area is purposefully designed to foster interaction and promote a minimalist lifestyle that emphasizes tranquility.

Sustainable material selection plays a critical role in the project. Materials such as concrete, sustainably sourced wood, and recycled components create a responsible building envelope. The use of high-performance glazing not only enhances aesthetics but also contributes to thermal performance. Proper insulation further minimizes energy consumption, making Maison 24 a model for energy-efficient residential design.

Unique design approaches set this project apart from conventional residential architecture. The circular design not only allows for a versatile living arrangement but also promotes natural ventilation and organic lighting patterns. The self-sustaining water management system, incorporating greywater recycling, exemplifies thoughtful environmental consideration. This innovative integration of technology into the structure enhances the overall sustainability profile, allowing for low-impact living.

The attention to detail within the architectural plans and sections reflects a commitment to creating spaces that are both visually appealing and functionally sound. Thoughtful design choices elevate the living experience while respecting the surrounding ecosystem. The interplay of indoor and outdoor spaces encourages residents to engage meaningfully with nature, reinforcing the project's commitment to sustainable living.

For those interested in delving deeper into Maison 24, it is recommended to explore the architectural plans, sections, and design elements further. This examination will yield insights into the innovative architectural ideas that underpin this project, showcasing how modern design can harmonize with ecological principles.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025. These milestones ensure participants have clear timelines to develop and present their concepts, with early registration discounts available to support students and emerging designers worldwide.
