Tili guest houses and winery is located in a scenic vineyard area, featuring a design that blends harmoniously with the natural landscape. The structure adopts a round and flowing form, reminiscent of grape beans, which allows it to integrate well with its surroundings. The design concept emphasizes a modest height and fluidity, ensuring that the building enhances the beauty of the environment while providing accommodations and wine tasting facilities for visitors.

Design Concept

The approach to design prioritizes modularity, resulting in a structure that is efficient and functional. The design draws inspiration from historical Italian monuments, capturing their essence while adapting to modern needs. This combination creates a layout that maximizes usability and integrates sustainable practices by utilizing local resources, reducing the overall ecological impact of the building.

Spatial Organization

The layout features different zones tailored for private and communal experiences. The guest houses cover about 70 square meters, including essential areas such as a living room, kitchen, dining table, storage room, bedroom, bathroom, and wardrobe. This efficient use of space fosters a connection to the outside, allowing guests to feel comfortable and relaxed during their stay.

Wine Tasting Experience

The winery includes a specialized wine tasting area of roughly 160 square meters, divided into private and common spaces to promote interaction with local wine culture. This area features a dining space, kitchen, and bathroom, accommodating both social gatherings and recreational activities. The design enhances the experience of engaging with regional wines, providing an opportunity for guests to appreciate the local offerings.

Outdoor Integration

In addition to the indoor spaces, the outdoor lounge area spans 140 square meters and includes a pool and seating area for relaxation and socializing. This outdoor setting enhances the connection to the landscape, allowing visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings. The green terrace further supports this relationship, creating a visual blend with the environment and contributing to the project's ecological sustainability.

The rounded shape of the design allows for easy movement throughout the space, eliminating corners and blind spots that can restrict flow. This attention to form and function fosters a welcoming atmosphere, where visitors can engage with both the architecture and the beauty of the natural landscape surrounding them.

Competition organisers

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. Organised by Buildner in partnership with Kingspan and Hapi Homes, this tenth edition sets the challenge of designing a dwelling for two people within a maximum floor area of 25 m², encouraging bold solutions adaptable to any urban or rural location. The competition continues Buildner’s mission to foster innovative approaches to compact, energy-efficient housing that can address pressing global challenges.

This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.

Key dates for MICROHOME 10 include the closing date for registration on 25 September 2025, the submission deadline on 29 October 2025 (11:59 p.m. London time), and the announcement of winners on 9 December 2025.
