The Family's Basket is a meditation cabin designed to encourage mindfulness and foster a connection with nature. Set within a forest landscape, the cabin provides a calm space for meditation and self-reflection. The overall design emphasizes flexibility, allowing individuals to shape the environment according to their personal needs and preferences.

Design and Form

The cabin features a circular shape, which plays a crucial role in the overall design. This form represents completeness and helps users to focus and recenter during meditation. The design creates an inviting atmosphere, allowing individuals to feel embraced by their surroundings. Banner windows are incorporated into the exterior walls, enhancing natural light and providing storage solutions within the walls. These well-placed openings allow for uninterrupted views of the landscape while ensuring a connection to the natural world.

Functional Spaces

A ramp follows the cabin's circular outline, leading to more private areas. Rope weaving serves as a functional design element, offering a sense of separation while still connecting the interior to the exterior. At the entrance, the weaving becomes denser, creating a flat terrace area that features a mosquito net, providing comfort for outdoor use without the disturbance of insects.

Adaptable Living

Flexibility is a key feature throughout the cabin. Its design includes "pop-up" furniture, which enhances the usable space. Items like the kitchen counter and seating can be unfolded easily, while beds and storage compartments are accessible by lifting wooden panels in the floor. This design approach keeps the space uncluttered while maximizing its functionality and promoting a simple aesthetic.

Sustainable Practices

The cabin utilizes local pine, aligning it with its natural environment and supporting the surrounding area. Its roof is crafted to manage rainwater, channeling it into a reservoir located above the entry landing. Solar panels are included to provide energy sustainably, while a wood stove ensures warmth during colder periods, enhancing the self-sufficient nature of the cabin.

The cabin features thoughtfully placed openings that frame beautiful views of the forest. These perspectives allow light to filter inside, creating a serene atmosphere that is well-suited for meditation and quiet contemplation.
