### Overview
Located in Kensington, Melbourne, the project "Exist Side by Side" engages with the societal perceptions surrounding death and memorialization. It aims to redefine the role of architecture in both commemorating lives and facilitating conversations about mortality. By creating a space that encourages reflection, the design fosters a communal approach to death, emphasizing engagement rather than avoidance.

### Spatial Configuration and Experience
The layout consists of interconnected volumes designed to accommodate various functions that promote both reflection and community interaction. Open areas facilitate public gatherings, while intimate zones are dedicated to personal contemplation. The circulation pathways are intentionally fluid, guiding visitors through the space and encouraging exploration. Ramps and stairs ensure accessibility while enhancing the journey of remembrance and contemplation. Additionally, memorial installations within the design provide individual narratives, allowing visitors to connect with personal stories related to loss.

### Materiality and Environmental Integration
The project's material selection further reinforces its conceptual intentions and emotional impact. Extensive use of concrete establishes a sturdy, grounded aesthetic, resonating with themes of permanence and memory. Glass elements enhance transparency, allowing natural light to permeate the space and foster a connection with the surrounding environment. Wood is utilized to introduce warmth, creating a comforting atmosphere for visitors. Structural steel complements the concrete, contributing to a modern aesthetic, while the integration of greenery bridges the connection between the built environment and nature. This thoughtful approach to materiality helps facilitate a reflective and welcoming experience.
