The Modenclave Villa project is a modular architectural design situated in Dubai. This project embodies a contemporary approach to residential living, emphasizing adaptability and sustainability. The concept centers around a flexible design that allows each villa to accommodate various family structures and lifestyle choices. By employing a modular design strategy, the project promotes efficiency in construction while ensuring that individual preferences are met.

The villa functions not only as a living space but also as a part of a larger community, engaging with the surrounding environment. The design incorporates smart planning principles that prioritize privacy, outdoor connectivity, and community interaction. Key components of the project include the core module, which serves as the foundation for expansion, landscaping features that enhance outdoor living, and thoughtful arrangements of both fixed and variable spaces within the villas. These aspects work in tandem to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing residential setting.

Modular Flexibility and Customization

A distinctive feature of the Modenclave Villa project is its emphasis on modular flexibility. Each villa is constructed from a core module that can be tailored for different environments and user needs. This sequential design enables the villas to be expanded horizontally or vertically, accommodating growing families or changing lifestyles without compromising structural integrity. The design actively encourages variation in layout and aesthetic by allowing homeowners to customize variable spaces according to personal taste and requirements. This innovative approach to residential architecture distinguishes the Modenclave project from traditional fixed designs.

Sustainability and Environmental Integration

The project also foregrounds sustainability through various design innovations. By minimizing the use of extensive glass surfaces and incorporating shared structural elements, the Modenclave Villa promotes energy efficiency and reduces material waste during construction. The integration of landscaped areas creates natural cooling spaces, improving thermal comfort while enhancing the visual experience of the environment. This approach not only addresses climate adaptation but also promotes an eco-friendly lifestyle by encouraging interaction with nature. The careful placement of outdoor spaces serves to connect residents with their surroundings, fostering a sense of community within the neighborhood.

The Modenclave Villa project presents an intriguing exploration of modular architecture, sustainability, and community engagement. The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge invites architects and designers to create iconic public sculptures for one of two sites in Saudi Arabia: Abu Hadriyah Road or the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar. Proposals should reflect Saudi identity, culture, and future aspirations.

`

The Mujassam Watan Urban Sculpture Challenge is an international architecture and design competition inviting creatives to shape the future of Saudi Arabia’s public spaces. With a total prize fund of €50,000, the competition calls for sculptural proposals that merge cultural symbolism with innovative design, offering participants a chance to see their concepts brought to life in a rapidly transforming national context.

Organised by Buildner in partnership with the Mujassam Watan Initiative, the challenge focuses on two prominent locations: Abu Hadriyah Road, a major highway and gateway into the Eastern Province, and the Tharwa Sea Front in Al-Khobar, a pedestrian-focused waterfront district. Designers must select one site and develop a sculpture that engages with its surroundings—whether addressing the fast-paced dynamism of a transit corridor or creating moments of interaction along a coastal promenade.

Proposals should be bold, site-specific, and rooted in narrative—drawing on themes such as heritage, national identity, transformation, and dialogue. Environmental responsiveness, material durability, and feasibility are strongly encouraged, as winning projects may be selected for actual construction.

Each submission must include four A2 landscape presentation boards, a cover image, and a written project description. The competition is open to professionals and students alike, working individually or in teams of up to four people. No professional license is required.

Registration is open until July 24, 2025, with final submissions due by August 27, 2025. Winners will be announced on October 1, 2025.
