The design at Ozolini Farm reimagines a once-abandoned agricultural site as a vibrant space focused on community and the healing qualities of nature. The project is set in a rich ecological environment and emphasizes paths that promote exploration, interaction, and personal reflection. This balance between social engagement and solitude forms the core of the design.

Pathways and Circulation

An intricate network of winding paths connects various elements of the site, guiding visitors through a natural experience. The circular bench, located at the edge of a clearing, serves as a focal point for interaction. It acts as a gathering place for visitors, encouraging them to pause and connect with others, while also bridging the cultivated farm and the surrounding forest.

Live/Work Spaces

Individual live/work volumes are carefully arranged along the paths, designed to accommodate a range of activities and interests. The use of local wood in the interiors creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that supports relaxation. Though each space is private, the layout promotes easy access to the paths, ensuring that social interactions can occur naturally.

Meditation Hut

A key feature of the design is the meditation hut, accessible by a tertiary path that leads visitors into a space meant for quiet reflection. Inside this hut, a rotating steel door allows visitors to control light and sound, shaping their experience according to their needs. The round clerestory window not only enhances natural light but also frames the views of the forest, deepening the sense of connection to the surrounding nature.

Functional Considerations

The design pays attention to practical details that enhance usability. Each live/work space includes a bed platform with built-in storage for supplies, maximizing the functionality of the living areas. Radiant floor heating adds comfort in colder months and can be powered by propane or solar panels, offering energy-efficient options. This thoughtful blend of functionality and design allows visitors to engage with both the spaces and nature comfortably.

The meditation hut, with its round clerestory window, captures sunlight while providing views of the forest, creating a serene atmosphere for reflection and tranquility.
