## Overview

Located in a district with a legacy of industrial use, the M.I London Museum is designed to address contemporary urban challenges while serving as a cultural hub. The new structure aims to create a dialogue between past and present, revitalizing the historical context of the area and enhancing community engagement.

## Spatial Integration and Design Strategy

The design incorporates an “envelope space” that envelops the existing Old Station Museum, preserving its historical elements while improving functionality. This spatial strategy fosters a connection between the interior and exterior, allowing for dynamic visitor interaction from the moment they approach the building. Thoughtfully curated floor plans feature an arrangement that minimizes long corridors, promoting fluid navigation through public and private spaces.

## Material Selection and Sustainability

The selection of materials is a critical component of the project, reflecting both historical resonance and contemporary needs. Brick is used to maintain a tactile connection with local architecture, while expansive glass elements promote transparency and natural light. Concrete serves as the primary structural material, ensuring durability, while steel frames enhance flexibility within the interior layout. Surrounding landscape architecture incorporates green spaces, demonstrating a commitment to environmental sustainability and inviting community participation within a cohesive outdoor setting. Additionally, the project embraces adaptive reuse principles by ingeniously integrating the old and new, thereby minimizing material waste and preserving the site's historical significance.
