The Columbarium project offers a thoughtful approach to themes of loss and memory, located within a forest cemetery. It functions as both a memorial space and a pathway for visitors facing their grief. The design conveys a maze-like structure, representing the twists and turns of life, guiding individuals through their feelings while paving the way to healing.

Functionality

The layout promotes exploration, with winding paths that reflect the confusion often felt during times of mourning. As visitors navigate through the maze, they reach a central area that symbolizes clarity, standing in contrast to the emotional chaos of grief. Above the maze, a geometric structure provides a focal point, helping individuals find direction amidst their experiences.

Day and Night Dynamics

A notable feature of the Columbarium is its ability to change character from day to night. By daylight, it serves as a tranquil place for the living, while at night, it becomes a resting space for those who have passed away. This shift deepens the connection visitors feel with their memories. The varying light and colors create unique atmospheres that enhance the act of remembrance.

Landscape Integration

The surrounding landscape follows a thoughtful, non-intrusive approach that allows the structure to blend into its natural environment. Pathways made of gravel wind through patches of greenery, encouraging contemplation without disrupting the landscape. Areas of grass provide visitors with quiet spaces to pause and reflect within the serene setting.

Structural Features

The design incorporates essential elements like columns, a compression ring, and a glass cover. These components provide stability while allowing natural light to enter the space, creating an inviting environment. The way light interacts with the structure highlights its purpose as a point of connection between the living and the departed.

The design reveals a delicate balance between openness and shelter, where the glass cover captures reflections from the surrounding trees and sky while fostering an intimate atmosphere inside.
