La Darsena di Milano is located in a historically important area of Milan, Italy. The project aims to breathe new life into the waterfront around the Darsena by combining nature with urban spaces. The design focuses on reopening waterways while adding green areas to support community activities and ecological health.

Key Features

One of the main elements of the design is the reopening of the waterway. This feature acts as the heart of the project, enhancing the area's appearance and supporting local wildlife. The plan includes the careful relocation of existing trees, ensuring that the natural landscape is respected and integrated into the new environment.

Water Elements

Water features are significant in this design, with a sculpture pool and several fountains creating inviting spaces for visitors. These features enhance not just the look of the area, but also provide a reason for people to gather and enjoy outdoor activities. Cascading tier waterfalls and the Canal Darsena waterfall add visual interest and soothing sounds, making the waterfront a lively spot for relaxation and interaction.

Community Spaces

The design includes spaces specifically for family activities, such as a children's open-air theatre and a raised grass playground. These areas encourage children to play and families to gather in a safe environment. Small retail shops and food and beverage stands are positioned throughout the site, further contributing to its lively atmosphere and inviting people to spend time here.

Accessibility and Connectivity

Thoughtful design choices ensure that the site is accessible to everyone. Barrier-free pathways like the one along Viale Gorizia make reaching the waterfront easy for all visitors. The project includes functional elements such as stairs descending from Viale Gabriele, which enhance movement through the area. A three-way pedestrian ramp bridge allows smooth traffic flow, making it easy for people to explore the site.

The extended outdoor dining areas create outdoor spaces for restaurants, allowing patrons to enjoy meals while engaged with the lively surroundings. This combination of nature and urban life reflects a commitment to building a welcoming public space that serves both the community and the historical context of the Darsena.
