The POSAM European Velo Stops project is located in a beautiful landscape with clear views of the river and surrounding green areas. Designed for cyclists, it combines practical functions with a focus on nature. The structure reflects the movement of a cyclist, resulting in a unique form that stands out while blending into its environment.

Architectural Form

The design's form is inspired by the image of a cyclist in motion. This idea translates into a cantilevered structure, which appears to reach outward and upward. Supported by two main legs, the shape suggests activity and energy. It not only enhances visual interest but also connects users to the landscape, reinforcing the importance of cycling within this natural setting.

Spatial Organization

Inside the velo stop, the arrangement of spaces is well thought out. It features multiple levels that connect the entrance to various functional areas, including restrooms and social spaces. The layout encourages easy movement and interaction. Users can navigate comfortably, with a balance between openness and privacy, enhancing their overall experience.

Material Selection

The choice of materials reflects both environmental awareness and aesthetic appeal. The exterior combines a stainless steel skin with double-glazed glass, resulting in a smooth and reflective surface. This not only complements the surroundings but also contributes to energy efficiency. Wooden stripes on the facade, arranged in a pattern inspired by the Fibonacci sequence, add a natural element. Solar panels are included as part of a commitment to sustainability, while waterproof and insulation layers help protect the structure from weather conditions.

Distinctive Features

A key feature of the velo stops is the raised platform. It offers wide, uninterrupted views of the river and landscape, allowing users to feel connected to the environment. This elevation also helps to preserve the existing plants below, creating a space that feels integrated with nature. The combination of thoughtful design and material choices enhances the relationship between the structure and its surroundings, offering a welcoming place for cyclists and visitors alike.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025: Celebrating Architectural Creativity and Visionary Unbuilt Designs with a Total Prize Fund of €100,000

`
Competition organisers

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 is an international architecture competition dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the value of unrealized architectural designs. It invites architects, designers, and students worldwide to submit visionary projects that have not yet been constructed, highlighting the power of ideas and the creativity behind the design process. By focusing on unbuilt work, the competition aims to bring forward concepts that shape the future of architecture and push the boundaries of the profession.

Participants can compete in three categories based on project scale: Small Wonders (up to 100 m²), Medium Marvels (101–999 m²), and Large Visions (over 1,000 m²). Each category winner will receive €20,000, and additional prizes include honorable mentions, student awards, and a special Best Presentation Award. Winning projects will gain significant international exposure through Buildner’s publicity campaign and a feature article on ArchDaily, providing a unique opportunity to showcase creative ideas to a global audience.

The Buildner’s Unbuilt Award 2025 encourages entrants to submit any type of unbuilt project, from conceptual visions to detailed designs, celebrating bold innovation without the constraints of realization. Important deadlines: registration closes on October 30, 2025; submissions are due by November 20, 2025; winners will be announced on December 17, 2025.
