Canopy Home Featuring Expandable Glass Walls for Artistic Living

Project in-detail

Designed with expandable glass walls and a canopied structure, the micro home provides a flexible living space that adapts to the needs of traveling artists for both creation and exhibition.
5 key facts about this project
01
Expandable walls create versatile indoor and outdoor spaces for art display.
02
The design incorporates a canopy with glass panels for weather protection.
03
Multiple views from the bedroom enhance natural light and inspiration.
04
Transformable furniture maximizes functionality in limited space.
05
A focus on connecting living and working areas complements the artistic lifestyle.

The mobile micro home is designed for artists who want to create and display their work while traveling. Situated in urban areas, it blends living space with a workspace. The main idea is to provide flexibility and a strong connection to the outside environment, allowing artists to enjoy their surroundings while having the comforts of home.

Exterior Connectivity

The standout feature of the micro home is its exterior walls that open up. This design invites the environment into the living space, creating an area to showcase photography and paintings. Opening the walls allows for various outdoor activities, including dining and relaxing in the fresh air.

Transformable Interior Spaces

Inside, the micro home features a living room and kitchen that also connect to the outside. Large openings allow plenty of natural light and expansive views, enhancing the overall experience of the space. The interior is designed for flexibility, enabling the furniture arrangement to change as needed throughout the day.

Dual-Functionality in the Bedroom

The bedroom does more than serve as a sleeping area; it also functions as a workspace for painting. Located at the rear of the home, it offers multiple views of the outside. The bed can fold up when not in use, and a table unfolds easily for artistic work. This dual-purpose design maximizes space, tailored for both rest and creativity.

Outdoor Protection and Utility

An important aspect of the design is the canopy that extends from the roof. It includes glass panels placed between louvres for protection against rain. This addition allows the exterior space to be used even in less favorable weather, making it suitable for dining or socializing outdoors.

The combination of flexible spaces, a strong connection to the outdoors, and functionality for creating art highlights the thoughtful nature of the micro home. It caters well to the needs of artists, resulting in a living environment that encourages both creativity and comfort.

The MICROHOME 10 competition invites participants to submit visionary designs for off-grid, modular microhomes that push the limits of sustainable, small-scale living. This year’s edition offers a generous total prize fund of €100,000, including the Kingspan Award for designs that integrate high-performance Kingspan products and the Hapi Homes Award for a project selected for real-world construction. In addition to cash prizes, the winners gain international exposure through Buildner’s media partnerships, publications, and a dedicated MICROHOME magazine, further amplifying their ideas to the wider architectural community.
