Vale de Moses is a retreat located in Amieira, a small mountainous village in central Portugal, close to the Serra da Estrela mountains. Designed as a wellness space, it emphasizes a strong connection to nature and promotes mindfulness practices. The concept focuses on preserving the character of the mountain, providing users with quiet moments of reflection and engagement with the environment.

Site Integration

The design carefully incorporates the buildings into the landscape to minimize disruption. Cabins are strategically placed to enhance natural views and complement the topography. This thoughtful placement respects the contours of the land and honors the local culture, creating spaces that blend with their surroundings.

Sustainability Features

Sustainability plays a critical role in the development of Vale de Moses. The project includes features like rainwater collection and passive energy strategies that utilize daylight. These measures allow the retreat to operate with minimal environmental impact, aligning with contemporary principles of ecological design.

Material Selection

Materials used in construction reflect the local context and enhance authenticity. Clay and stones from the region provide a natural aesthetic, while stamped concrete offers structural reliability. The choice of local stone for the facades helps connect the buildings visually to the terrain, further rooting the retreat in its setting.

Aesthetic Experience

The design emphasizes sensory experiences, particularly within the yoga cabin. Uniform illumination within the space creates an expansive feel, promoting mindfulness and personal connection. This aspect helps users engage more deeply with their surroundings, enhancing the overall purpose of the retreat as a place for relaxation and introspection.
