Burgeon Home is located in Metro Manila, Philippines. The design responds to the tropical climate with a focus on occupant comfort and a connection to the natural environment. Drawing inspiration from the growth of a mango seed, the project explores themes of evolution and nurturing. The central courtyard is key to the layout, allowing for natural ventilation and serving as a gathering place for residents.

Central Courtyard

The courtyard acts as the heart of the home. It promotes movement and interaction among the spaces arranged around it. The design takes advantage of the natural airflow to cool the living areas, making them comfortable in warm weather. This outdoor space provides a peaceful environment for relaxation and recreation, encouraging a lifestyle that embraces both nature and community.

Open Planning Layout

Burgeon Home features an open layout that integrates shared and private areas, enhancing the flow between them. Important spaces include a library, meditation room, music room, and chapel, each catering to specific needs. The dining and gathering rooms encourage family interactions, creating a warm atmosphere for social experiences.

Biophilic Façade

The façade includes a brise soleil designed to reduce sun exposure while adding visual interest. This feature uses patterns inspired by nature to filter light and maintain privacy. It effectively contributes to cooling the interior and reinforces a sense of connection to the environment outside.

Sustainability Features

The design incorporates sustainable practices through xeriscaping and efficient water management. The courtyard serves as a stormwater collector, designed to filter and store rainwater for non-drinking purposes. These features highlight a commitment to environmental responsibility, enhancing resilience in the local climate while supporting daily needs.

In the end, creating spaces that connect people with nature stands as a central aim of the design. The careful arrangement of areas fosters a comfortable living environment that emphasizes well-being and a sustainable lifestyle.
