The Tili estate design project takes a thoughtful approach to creating a living environment that encourages both community interaction and a strong connection to the landscape. Located near the charming towns of Spello and Assisi, the design integrates residential spaces with the beauty of the surrounding area. It aims to create a sense of village life, where the arrangement of buildings enhances the experience of living while fostering social connections among residents.

Design Approach

The layout is centered around an arch, with residential units positioned to maximize privacy and stunning views of the landscape. Each unit is thoughtfully placed along the arch, which allows for open sightlines while also ensuring that residents can enjoy their own personal space. This design encourages a connection between the buildings and the natural environment, offering a peaceful retreat.

Spatial Arrangement

The estate features a blend of open and closed spaces that lead into a private square, promoting community interaction while maintaining clear boundaries between public and private areas. Outdoor common spaces, such as the entrance and the Arco square, are designed to bring people together. This layout helps build a sense of community while providing areas for socializing and gathering.

Materiality and Sustainability

Materials chosen for the estate emphasize practicality and sustainable living. A strong brick wall creates separation between public and private areas while also providing sun shading for comfort. Half of the units are topped with green roofs that include photovoltaic panels for energy savings. The remaining roofs are made of gravel, complementing the natural landscape and supporting ecological goals.

Architectural Detail

Each unit is accessed through a wooden canopy covered with grapevines, offering shade and a welcoming entry point. This thoughtful detail creates an inviting transition from the exterior to the interior. The canopies not only protect from the sun or rain but also encourage a connection to nature. This aspect of the design enhances the living experience, as it fosters a balance between indoor comfort and the beauty of the outside world.
