Brick and Steel Structure Framing Expansive Vineyard Views

Project in-detail

A prominent brick and steel structure with expansive glazing offers unobstructed views of the surrounding vineyards while providing a dedicated space for wine tasting and visitor engagement.
5 key facts about this project
01
A dedicated corridor connects distinct functional areas of the winery, enhancing visitor movement.
02
The extensive use of glazing maximizes natural light and offers panoramic vineyard views.
03
Brick walls provide structural support while contributing to the building's warmth and familiarity.
04
Perforated brick structures create shaded outdoor spaces for year-round hospitality.
05
The design emphasizes a transition from intimate entry to an expansive tasting area.

Enodare Winery, situated in Portugal, demonstrates a thoughtful relationship between architecture and the surrounding environment. The design focuses on the functions of winemaking and the visitor experience, fostering a connection with local traditions and the land itself. The project is not just about producing wine; it invites people to explore and appreciate the natural beauty that supports its craft.

Spatial Organization

The design divides the winery into four main areas: the entrance, bar, dining area, and patio. This arrangement allows different activities to take place while maintaining a smooth flow throughout the space. Visitors enter through a narrow, elevated entrance that leads into a spacious dining and bar area. This transition from a more confined space to an open environment emphasizes the contrast between intimacy and openness.

Natural Light and Views

Large openings are strategically placed throughout the interior, allowing natural light to fill the space and creating a dynamic atmosphere that changes throughout the day. These architectural choices enhance both the aesthetic experience and the visitors' connection with the landscape. A prominent glass wall at the far end of the dining area provides expansive views of the vineyards, further emphasizing the relationship between the winery and its agricultural surroundings.

Materiality

The choice of materials shapes the overall feel of the winery. Brick serves as a major structural element, offering support while adding warmth and a sense of tradition to the design. Steel components are also incorporated, especially in the roof structure. They introduce a modern aspect that contrasts with the solidity of the brick, blending old and new construction methods.

Outdoor Integration

An outdoor patio enhances the winery’s functionality, allowing visitors to enjoy the outside environment. This patio is shaded by perforated brick structures, which create a comfortable space for relaxation and socializing. The integration of this outdoor area shows a commitment to creating a comprehensive wine-tasting experience, connecting visitors to both the winery and the natural world around it.

The glass walls frame the picturesque landscape, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. As sunlight moves across the surfaces, shadows and light play across the interior, revealing the changing character of the winery throughout the day.
